Can I make an ignite tape on an L2000 running 11i, and use that tape to place an Operating System on a Keystone(rp8400)?

Mark,

although it should work, you'd better spend your time just installing the OS from scratch.

You could make your L2000 an ignite server....

What patch level is your L2000 at?

The L2000 is currently running 11.0. It is a development system running a Oracle Financials application. The thought was that we would update it to 11i using the Septmeber CD's, and then load the latest patch bundle. If we could get the December Support Plus CD that is what we would use. After that, we were going to create a make_recovery tape, and then load it onto the Keystone. The reason for taking this approach, is to test Oracle on the L2000 under 11i, before setting up the Keystone.

Hi,

I have both L class and rp8400 (just arrived) and there are differences in the default filesets that are loaded from the Core OS CD. These relate directly to the partitioning for both top and bottom halves. The fileset directly related is:

PartitionManager B.11.11.01.01 Partition Manager for HP-UX
Which is part of
HPUXBaseAux -> B.11.11.0109 HP-UX Base OS Auxiliary

So in conclusion, I would not load an ignite tape from your L class. Sometimes you learn far more from a fresh installation than you do from an ignite tape, especially when you are dealing with a new model.

Mark,

Most of us try to discourage the use of upgrades because they usually lead to more trouble than they are worth. I would personally just install 11i versus trying an upgrade, and secondly, I'd do it just to make sure I had a "pure" install without changes, especially if it's a development environment.

Is your 11.00 on your L-class the 64bit version? If not, then you should, without a doubt, do a cold install (basically build the machine from scratch).
