Hi David,

To solve this problem try running a cleaning tape through the tape drive
and try booting again (see warning below).

If this does not fix the problem, you can check whether the really tape
contains a LIF area using the Ignite/UX command "copy_boot_tape". More
information on the copy_boot_tape command can be can be found in the man
page copy_boot_tape(1m).

If this does not work then try the attached document.

*** Warning: The tape drive only be cleaned according to the cleaning
instructions applicable to the tape drive. A DDS tape drive should be cleaned
2-3 times in this situation (especially pre DDS3 tape drives). DLT tape
drives should never be cleaned unless the cleaning light is on.
Creating Install CD using Ignite-UX

I followed the instructions for creating Install Media and created an installation CD using Ignite-UX on 10.20. I went to test the CD, and it will not boot from the CD. When I burned the CD, I burned two different CD's. One using ISO 9660 and the other the default which was Joliet. Neither CD would boot a system. Am I missing something here? The error message I get when trying to boot off the CD is:

"IPL error: bad LIF magic"

Has anyone else tried to do this and was successful. The workstation I am trying to build from the CD is an HP9000/770 series.

One other thing, Does anyone know where I can get a driver for a HP CD-Writer Plus 9200E for HPUX 10.20?

Thanks.

Yes, you can create a bootable CD for HP-UX for ignite. You need to follow the instructions in the FAQ, section 7.1;

http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/docs/iux_faq

Also, a product for burning CD's on HP-UX is;

http://www.tracertech.com

You choose a bad day to do your question. I have tried response many times but the change of forum release was not good for me.
Now i can replay.

To check CD :

insert CD

lifls -l /dev/rdsk/cxtxdx # see man lifls

About creation:

CD must be recorded using 2048 bytes block. Review ignite docs.

Try to test your original image on disk ussing lifls too ( lifls /cd_image ).

I did it and it runs ok.
