I have a K460 without a console and it completes bootup just fine. During hard boot, does your K class pause at the PDC? If so, as root use `setboot -b on` to enable autoboot.

Can anyone tell me what steps/modifications
I need to make (inittab, inetd.conf ??) prior
to shutting down a K- class server ( Model
C110) so that it will completly reboot and
be accessible upon power up IF I do not
have a console attached??

I have heard conflicting info on whether
this is possible with all HP servers. If it
is, is anyone doing this and what do I need
to do to ensure proper startup. If it is
not, can anyone confirm with this model/class
server??

Thanks in advance.

Ted
Ted-

We have a D class server, and we didn't have a console for a long while. We always telneted in to do stuff like shutdown, and used a hyperterminal for single-user. Even now with the console, I don't use it to boot up (although I watch it for messages). the only exception is to go to single user mode. I don't know about what modifications need to be made, but I would think that it should be set up by default to boot on it's own up to a full run state whether the console is there or not. It doesn't make sense that the server would not do this, since all it is doing is starting processes and deamons, all of which should be automated and not need user input.

Mark

I have booted my K's many times from a remote telnet terminal and I didn't make any changes to be able to do it. Like Mark, I only refer to the attached console if there is a problem.

just make sure that your pri boot path is correct and autoboot flag is on.
You can do this as stated earlier with setboot.

Later,
Bill

I enabled the autoboot and was able to get the server up as normal without an attached console.

Thanks to all for the info.

tb
