HPVM server/client version mis-match

I am trying to install the hpvm guest package on a client with the following:

HPVM Server -

VMHost# hpvmstatus -v
Version B.04.00.00
[Virtual Machines]

...

HPVM Client -

VMClient# swinstall -s /tmp/hpvm_guest_depot.11iv3.sd

I select all three of the bundles, but the fileset HPVM-Guest.vmTools.VMTOOLS-RUN fails to install with this error:

NOTE: The fileset "vmTools.VMTOOLS-RUN,r=B.04.00" was excluded due
to an exrequisite dependency on "vmKernel"

In checking the client itself, I find this:

This setup was originally a version 3.5 system, but I upgraded sometime ago to 4.0. I assumed that all the clients were upgraded at the same time:

What can I do to get my client onto the correct kernel so that I can install the guest libraries?

Hi Karen,

My understanding is the vmKernel fileset is only supposed to be installed on Integrity VM Hosts, not guests. I just checked one of my Intgrity VM 4.2 guests and verified the vmKernel fileset is not installed.

I'm curious how the vmKernel fileset was installed in the guest. Did you use the same Ignite image or DRD disk image to install the OS on the guest that you used for installing VM Hosts? Was this guest's boot disk previously used by a VM Host?

My guess is the guest libraries are not installing because they find the vmKernel fileset and assume the system is a acting as VM Host. Have you tried using swremove to remove the vmKernel fileset from the Guest?
