Hi all,

i set up a samba server on a vm guest.when i try to download or upload a file i can' go over 6 MB/s. if i test the download from vm host it's about 11.5 MB/s. (my pc is behind 100 mbit's switch)

VM guest has 1 gbit interface. vSwitch is over 2 Gbit/s interfaces made by apa.

Is there anything to do for increasing vm guest's bandwidth?

thanks.
hi again,

# grep "socket options" /etc/opt/samba/smb.conf
; socket options = TCP_NODELAY

integrity vm 4.20 version. Guest has 4 vcpu and 10 gb memory. Also avio_lan is used for network.

Are there any differences between host and guest's OS level, samba version, network parameters?
Have you tried netperf or ftp to measure vm guest's bandwidth? If they also show 6Mb/s, then you have a global bottleneck in the guest. If you have better values then you need to tune some parameters for samba.

selam turgay,

i tested it. it also showed 6 Mbit/s. i had thought with a parameter in hpvmnet or hpvmmodify i can increase the resource. but i couldn't.

i added option TC_NODELAY. but not increased over 6 mbit/s.

This can be related to guest and host LAN AVIO driver. What is the guest's OS version? If you have a guest with different OS version on the same host, you can try to find the network bandwith and compare each guest's values.

Hi,
I have tested (with ftp) network speed on one of our host (version 4.1, AVIO LAN B.11.31.0909), on the host i get 100MB/sec.
-On the hpux 11.23 guests(AVIO LAN B.11.23.0812), network throughput is 93MB/sec
-On the hp-ux 11.31 guests(AVIO LAN B.11.31.0909), network througput is 65MB/sec

There are significant difference between 11.31 and 11.23 guest performance.

If you have a support then you can open a case to HP about the degration of performance in the guest.
