Bonjour Rikki,

Some silly questions :

- Is your virtual switch Switch1 up and running (hpvmnet) ?
- Did you install HostAVIOStor and HostAvioLan on the host ?
- Don't know, but HostAVIOStor and HostAvioLan have nothing to do in the VM. Probably no impact, but ...
- Are the fileset correctly installed. Check with :
#swlist -l fileset -a state | egrep -v "configured|#"

Eric
HostAvioLan and GuestAvioLan have now a new release : B.11.23.1003. Don't think it is directly relevant but you should try to update ( https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=AVIO )

At this URL, you will find also some required patches or minimum release of some HP software. Have you checked that ?

"no output from the swlist command on the host and guest" --> filesets seem to be correctly installed and configured.

Switch1 is configured over an APA interface (lan900). You said "all other vm's are OK". Yes, but :
- connected on the same virtual switch ?
- other vm work with emulated lan or avio_lan ?

I've installed the latest AVIO software package on the guest. No change

Regarding the dependancies, I did find some problems there:

# J4240AA APA (B.11.23.40)
# IEther-00 (B.11.23.0909)
# GigEther-01 (B.11.23.0809)

installed versions are:

# J4240AA               B.11.23.20     Auto-Port Aggregation Software
# IEther-00             B.11.23.0712   PCI/PCI-X/PCIe IEther
# GigEther-01                   B.11.23.0712   PCI GigEther;Supptd HW=A6825A/A6794A/A6847A/A8685A/A9782A/A9784A/A7109A/AB465A

When reading the release notes for APA 11.23.40 I see there is only one change:

What Is New in the December 2007 Release (B.11.23.40) for HP-UX 11i v2?

* Improves HP Integrity virtual machine (HPVM) support.

So I guess this is my problem. I need to schedule downtime and locate a current version of APA for 11.23 (Did you know APA is free for 11.31 and not for 11.23?)

Will report back when all dependancies are met.

Note sure, but I also think there is something behind APA/AVIO. For exemple, on the URL previously pointed, you will find QXCR1000933343 which points a performance problem between AVIO LAN and APA.

So, don't forget to also install latest AVIO on the host during downtime since this defect is fixed in the HostAvioLan package, not in the GuestAvioLan package.

Unfortunatly, I have no configuration with APA 11iv2 / AvioLan. I have many APA 11iv2 / emulated lan or APA 11iv3 / AvioLan. The latest one works pretty well

And Yes APA is free of charge on 11iv3. But do you know that LVM Mirror was also free of charge at the very beginning of 11iv3, but is no more ... ?-(

Don't remember where, but I keep in mind that there are some restrictions between APA and AVIO. May be it is a confusion of my own between APA and MCSG. Anyway, while searching for this, I found something in APA Release Notes J4240-90047.pdf :

---------------
The B.11.23.40 version of HP APA:
Supports using the load distribution algorithm specified in the HP APA raw mode packet
within HP Integrity virtual machines. This requires that you install the HPVM PHSS_36737
patch. Previous releases of HP APA were restricted to the LB_MAC distribution algorithm.
---------------

Which algorithm do you use ? Is the patch PHSS_36737 installed ?

I created a depot containing:

GigEther-01      ->   B.11.23.0909
IEther-00        ->   B.11.23.0909
GuestAvioLan     ->   B.11.23.1003
GuestAVIOStor    ->   B.11.23.0903
HostAvioLan      ->   B.11.23.1003
HostAVIOStor     ->   B.11.23.0808
J4240AA          ->   B.11.23.40

and installed it on all guests (I skipped APA on the guests). Once the guests had rebooted I switched them off, stopped HPVM on the host and installed the entire bundle on the host.

Now the avio lan on the node works as expected. Still using LB_MAC but I'm going to look more at what new features APA has for HPVM later.

Eric, thanks again for all your help :)
