Olivier,

I have not seen this on any of the roadmaps for HPVM - it certainly isn't "coming soon".

You could maybe add a minimally configured cell board (2 or 4 core) to a cell based system.

HTH

Duncan

VM Host in a Vpar... coming soon?

Yes I know it's not supported, but I thought I'd ask if someone here knows if support is planned for the future.

Why would I want to do this? Because I have a special need for a VM host that has a small number of cores, to comply with the licensing restrictions of some lassy mog application that costs big bucks. Since vPars are not supported, I don't have any choice other than buying a minimal rx2660 or bl860c to host this...

Thanks

Hello,

maybe it is intentional, do you remember the rx1600. ? On several occasions it would have exactly suited my needs only until I found out that it had been discontinued and I had to go for the higher, double-priced rx26x0.

J.

I don't know the internals of vPars an how it interferes with VMs, for instance there are many possible memory arrangements, but from my point of view I don't see why running a process like hpvmapp would be impossible.

For example, maybe some customers with Superdomes could benefit from such a feature, to have complete flexibility. I should be at the HP-UX panel at the HPTF next week so I'll ask. :)

Thanks

At this point in time, there are no plans to be allow or support this, and I have my personal doubts it ever will be done.

Just for the record, I asked Isom Crawford yesterday at the HP-UX panel, and the answer was short and clear: "No".

Bye
