The "mixed environment" feature is new to the A.04.05 release, so you need to use this version in your 11.23 vPar.

The vpmon must be the one provided by version A.05.02 (11.31), see

http://docs.hp.com/en/T1335-90085/index.html

Geoff,

The setboot command should show you whether hyperthreading is on or off - it needs to be off for 11iv2 vpars to boot. You can set it with 'parmodify -P <NPAR name=""> -T n', or using 'cpuconfig threads off' from EFI or 'threads off' from vpmon.

Torsten,

I think the 'mixed environment support' you are thinking of that is introduced on 04.05 is 11iv1/11iv2 mixed environment support. There is the following note on p12 of the latest vpars ordering and configuration guide:

---------------
Mixed HP-UX 11i v2/v3 vPars Environments
You can now have a vPars A.05.01 monitor and database that simultaneously supports
virtual partitions running vPars A.05.01 on HP-UX 11i v3 (11.31) and virtual partitions
running vPars A.04.02 or above on HP-UX 11i v2 (11.23). For detailed information, see the
â Mixed HP-UX 11i v2/v3 vParsâ section in the â Planningâ chapter of the HP-UX Virtual
Partitions Administratorâ s Guide.
---------------

So as long as Geoff has 04.02 or higher and the correct 11iv2 update release it should work...

HTH

Duncan
</NPAR>

Like Duncan said before, Hyperthreading enabled could be the showstopper in a mixed environment.
If this is enabled and you disable this feature, you need to reboot the nPar (vpmon).

The setboot or parstatus command from the running OS or
MON> threads
will show you he setting.

Yes - interesting that it was hyper threading that caused that message - you think the error would have been something about "hyper threading" - but that would be too intuitive now wouldn't it?
