new server setup issues

i am trying to connect via "reflection X" to a new HP k570. This is a remote connection across the network. I am able to telnet just fine but i am getting the following error.

the desktop messaging system could not be started
to correct the problem:
1. choose OK to return to the login screen
2. select failsafe seesioin from teh login screens option menu and log in
3. check to tsee that the desktop is properly installed, the hostname is correct
/etc/hosts and that the network is properly configured
for additional info see the CDE users guide

what do i need to do.. and what command can i use to see the version of OS this thing is running.

It looks like the /usr/dt/bin/ttsession couldn't start. Run this on the K ..
# /usr/contrib/bin/X11/dr_dt | more
The end of the output should give X ERRORs and X WARNINGs. Post these errors.
Also check the /var/dt/Xerrors.

To check version of OS
# uname -a
