Steven (and others who read my initial post)-

I figured it out. Apparently swinstall had a problem with NIS running on the server. After I stopped daemons from running, swinstall comes up fine..

I'll restart NIS after I finish installing software...

Mike Elleby

After I've mounted the CD and started swinstall, instead of prompt me for the depot path, it give me a Select Target path, and when I enter /cdrom, I get the message:

"Could not contact host myserver. Make sure the hostname is correct."

I just recently renamed host and rebooted... Can't remember the solution for this problem, as I have run into it before..

Any suggestions?

Thanx.

Mike Elleby

Do you have an NIS map for hostnames? Did you change the name of your system in that map?

Also have a look at your /etc/nsswitch.conf file and see what order it looks for hostnames. I would almost bet that it was looking in NIS first and getting confused. If so, you might want to consider having it look in files first the NIS or DNS.

Patrick-

Yep, something was awry in the NIS maps, and had to change nsswitch.conf to point to files first to correct the problem.

Mike Elleby

Hi Michael,

just a remark...

did you allready actualise NIS? It is possible that other services are using NIS as well and they would also be confused with two different host names in NIS and on your host-computer.

Allways stay on the bright side of life!

Peter
