topic about vgchange in Operating System - HP-UX

about vgchange

when i use vgdisplay to check box, i find something :
vgdisplay: Cannot display volume group "/dev/oradatvg20".
vgdisplay: Volume group not activated.

so i use vgchange to repair ,but there is something wrong :
vgchange -a y /dev/oradatvg20
vgchange: Activation mode requested for the volume group "/dev/oradatvg20" conflicts with configured mode.

what should i do ?

hi,
Try
#vgchange -c n /dev/vgxx
#vgchange -a y /dev/vgxx

Is your VG is within the cluster? If yes, you need to deactivate it from the cluster first:

# vgchange -c n /dev/oradatvg20

Then activate it by:

# vgchange -a y /dev/oradatvg20

i have used the command :vgchange -c n
but the cursor stop here,and cant finished for a long time,does the command take a long time?

Hi,
It should not take long time.
But never kill it.
Wait and it will come with some mesg.

Hi,

If your disks are either part of a
cluster or even a SAN (Storage Area
Network) it can take a very long
time depending on the dnumber of
paths and LUN's it needs to check.

That Vg is being used by the fellow box..

DO:

cmviewcl to see then conf. of your cluster.

Then go to active box and type vgdisplay.
Do not try to change configured access to that vg, at least, until you were more experienced.
