single user mode

Hi
In my J machine,if i try to go single user mode
it is giving some ugly thing and i could not break that also.After doing power cycle it is
getting ready and working fine in run level 4.
After the following
"Interact with ISL>y
ISL>hpux -is ".
I'm giving the above command to enter in to single user mode.
Please help me.

You commands are correct

ISL> hpux -is

will get you into single user mode.

Have you got console logs?

what does the output of
# lvlnboot -v
look like

how about

ISL> hpux -lm

Did you try booting up in LVM maintenance mode ?
ISL> hpux -lm
Any details you can post about the "ugly thing" would help.

What do u mean by 'ugly' thing ?

Did you try using 'hpux -lm' ? This invokes LVM maintenance mode, also boot in single user mode.

What happens when you do 'init s' for bringing down the system to single user mode ?

Do you think that the 'ugly' thing may be just a terminal emulation problem ?

Out put for lvlnboot -v is as follows.

Boot Definitions for Volume Group /dev/vg00:
Physical Volumes belonging in Root Volume Group:
/dev/dsk/c0t6d0 (8/0.6.0) -- Boot Disk
Boot: lvol1 on: /dev/dsk/c0t6d0
Root: lvol3 on: /dev/dsk/c0t6d0
Swap: lvol2 on: /dev/dsk/c0t6d0
Dump: lvol2 on: /dev/dsk/c0t6d0, 0

Note:Because of space problem i moved some
/usr/share/doc,/usr/contrib,/usr/share/man to
some other location.But now i replaced.is this creating problem?

Hi Navin,

Try this at ISL prompt,

ISL> hpux -is (;0)/stand/vmunix

or simply

ISL>hpux -is

These will boot the system in single user mode.

That is ugly!

Does this happen EVERY time you boot to single user?

I would suspect that you have a bad serial cable, or the wrong console settings (baud rate mismatch or some such) except that the ISL prompt comes up OK. (this is true, yes?)

When booting to multiuser mode does the console display gibberish?
