NIS client different subnet

Hi admins,
i have been strugling with this nis client in different subnet for some time. I did check old posts but still the problem resides. if someone can help me, it would be much appreciated.
okay here it goes:
OS: hpux 11i
my client in a 10.88.x.x subnet, the server is on 10.10.40.x subnet.
i did set the client as ypbind -ypsetme and ypset <SERVER-IP>.
i can ping machines, i have added the server to /etc/hosts and the client to the server as well. on the client if i do a ypwhich it shows the server. if i do ypwhich -m it shows the mpas and the server.
HOWEVER, when i do su - <NIS-USER> it says unknown id.
I do not that the id exists because i can nis from another machine.
the nis-client start on the same subnet as the server; however i needed to re-ip in order to go to another building and subnet.
i did try to make the nis-client also a slave, but when i try it says to me to add the slave/client machine to the hosts of the server which i did and i can see under the slaves, but i cannot make the client (10.88.x.x) as slave. I can do make a client, but seems that it is not mapping correctly.
my nsswitch.conf has passwd files [notfound=continue] nis,
strange enough. if i do ypcat -k passwd it says no such map in server's nis domain.
but the ypwhich -m shows that it is there.
sorry fo the long post.
thank you all,
./antonio/.

</NIS-USER></SERVER-IP>
