vgchange error

Hello,

Our customer had an rx2800 server running HPUX 11i v3 connected to an XP storage.

After unmounting a file system created on storage , he tried to deactivate the corresponding volume group but he got the following :

# vgchange -a n /dev/vg_svw

Could not open the LVM device file /dev/lvm_private/lvm .

open: Permission denied

vgchange: /etc/lvmconf/lvm_lock: Permission denied

vgchange: "/etc/lvmtab" could not be read into memory.

Please advise.

Hi:

The permission errors suggest that you are not running the commands as root.

Then the computer in the XP storage doesn't think you have permission to access the device?

Assuming you meant "they", what do you mean by they? Are you saying that the people running the command are logged in as root (working as=logged in as) or that the commands work if logged in as root?
