not able to ftp from hpux to aix

Hi all,

I am not able to ftp a aix server from a hpux machine, though I am able to ping it, please suggest what can be the problem.

What errors are you getting?
Can you ftp from your AIX machine back to itself?

Hi,
To check FTP is enable or disable at your AIX box just login into your AIX box and do ftp localhost if you are able to do ftp from your local box that means there is some firewall issue check your firewall team.
or
else you are not able to ftp then 1st enable ftp at your AIX box.

ftp is working on both servers, i can do ftp localhost on both. but when i try to ftp or ssh each other, it gives me an error
"ftp: connect: Connection refused". I am ble to ping each other, so I dont think there is a gateway problem, please suggest.

you have probably a firewall between them.

Also check if ftp is enabled on the AIX box.

now a days its very common to remove/disable the insecure protocols/services like ftp, telnet, rsh etc..

Another reason could be,ftp is blocked for this hpux ( this is configured in the /var/adm/inetd.sec)

best way to dig into this:
1) take network trace on both side
2) check syslog.log
