I think it might help if you define what you're looking for in a little more detail. My understanding is that Nortel NetID is a lot more than DNS and DHCP, it's a full-blown IP address management tool that provides integrated DNS and DHCP services. Are you looking for another product like that, or DNS and DHCP servers that can handle a large number of entries, or an IP address management tool that might not have DNS/DHCP integration, or something else?

Robert-Jan,

Well many years ago I used QIP, which now seems to be called VitalQIP

http://www.alcatel-lucent.com/wps/portal/products/detail?LMSG_CABINET=Solution_Product_Catalog&LMSG_CONTENT_FILE=Products/Product_Detail_000143.xml&LMSG_PARENT=#tabAnchor1

This was in a large international banking environment.

HTH

Duncan

Heironimus,

--
it's a full-blown IP address management tool that provides integrated DNS and DHCP services. Are you looking for another product like that
--
Yes you are correct, we are looking for a IP-address management tool.

IP Address Domain Manager manages both static and dynamic addresses and DNS/DHCP servers from a central management platform, called the Management Console. Its core functionality is to simplify IP address management, provide an overall view of an organization's IP address architecture, and automate IP management tasks. With IP Address Domain Manager, you have the following capabilities:

Avoid running out of available addresses.

Recycle used addresses as you decommission older equipment or move the equipment across subnets.

Perform network or subnet modeling, develop access control lists and host custom fields.

IP Address Domain Manager has a Java-enabled interface so it can easily integrate into an organization's existing infrastructure, regardless of the standard platform. It offers high network availability with built-in fault tolerance at every level and removes the major technical barriers to DHCP implementation by enabling dynamic DNS updates and DHCP redundancy.

Duncan and Ivan, thanks for your suggestions I will keep this thread open for some time.

Regards,
Robert-Jan
