topic Client DHCP Request in Operating System - HP-UX

After setting DHCP_ENABLE=1 in netconf, is there a way to cause a network interface to restart and request dynamic IP info from the DHCP server without rebooting? Likewise, can one cause a release and renew of the IP lease without a reboot?

After making your config changes you can run /sbin/init.d/net stop and /sbin/init.d/net start.

You will loose all IP connectivity so doing this vs rebooting has little advantage unless you are looking to only configure one HBA and not all.

Just for curiosity, best practices for servers is to have static IP addresses, just curious on why to expand my own horizons.

For a single interface manual configuration you might want to look at the dhcpclient command. Never used it myself but it might be what you are looking for.

IMHO, a server should always have a static IP address ... never came across a DHCP question because of this.

> IMHO, a server should always have a static
> IP address

I agree, but who says that every HP-UX system
is a server? The front of mine says "hp
workstation c3700", not "hp server c3700".
Of course, all my workstations are used as
servers, too, and all have static IP
addresses, but I can easily imagine a
situation where a dynamic address might be
preferred.
