ip problem

Hi all,

We hv a DHCP server and it allocating ip to the users once they turn on their pc/laptop.
There are few users,they are getting ip while they turn on the pc/laptop. But they are not communicate on the LAN. Once they release and renew the ip they are able to communicate on the LAN.

Pls note they are getting the same ip. In order to communicate they need to release and renew. I don't know why. Can you guys guide me what could be the problem why they need to renew everytime when they turn on the pc/laptop.

"Can't communicate with the LAN" does not
really describe the problem adequately. What
fails? DNS namne look-up? Routing?
Something? Everything?

First you have to confirm it is not a pc/laptop problem.

Hi Manish,

When they can't communicate let them try the following:
Windows
- ipconfig /all
- ping the router ip-adres; ping a server in your network
- tracert < a server in network>

UNIX
- ifconfig -a
- ping same as windows
- traceroute

Hopefully you can drill down to the problem.
Have also checked the log-file on your DHCP-server?

Hi,
PC/Laptop even LAN is working fine. Onlything they have to renew ip whenever they disconnect or turn on their pc.

There is no HW problem. Is there anything we need to check at DHCP end.

I create the batch file which renew ip whenever user turn on there PC/laptop.
