I have 8 ntp clients running on hpux 11i and the ntp server is on solaris8.

Day by day the time difference between NTP server and client is increasing. But the cliens can see ntp server without error.

$ /usr/sbin/ntpq -p
remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset disp
==============================================================================
ausyd01sv011.to 192.168.101.2   15 u  606 1024  377     0.93  13696.8   50.81

Shalom,

it also won't synchronize if the time idfference is too great. You will see a failure message in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log. If so manually adjust the clock and retry.

SEP

It can reach the ntp server. communication is also good. also time difference is very less. like 2 / 3 second.

But the time difference is increasing

$ /usr/sbin/ntpq -p
remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset disp
==============================================================================
ausyd01sv011.to 192.168.101.2   15 u  851 1024  377     0.49  1408.08   44.92

stratum is 15 (maximum that can be achieved)

man ntp :
The character in the left margin indicates the fate of this peer in the clock selection process. The codes mean:
<BLANK> discarded due to high stratum and/or failed sanity checks;

The solution would be to pick another ntp server to sync with, or alter the stratum of this server.

Another command I found useful in debugging ntp is:
ntpq -c assoc

</BLANK>
