Shalom,

It would help to know if they disks are scsi attached or fiber attached.

If they are fiber, the World Wide Name (WWN) needs to be assigned on the Fiber controller/array/whatever to the WWN of the Fiber card on the new machine.

If the system was working, I'd say vgexport the disk and then vgimport on the new system.

SCSI is a bit easer, you just move the scsi cable and run ioscan. You may need to boot the new system.

You should be able to use vgcfgrestore to read the lvm structure off the disk once attached to the new system and not destroy the data.

If data presercation is not an issue, attach, ioscan, vgcreate.

SEP

There is not enough data in your question as well as a big conflict. You are saying that the system is not booting with an internal boot drive but you are talking about replacing the external disks. I could not quite get the purpose of such activity.

Also, server model, "ioscan -fn" output could help for further assistance.

Hi

I accept what Mel has mentioned, need more info on this
If the server is not booting you need try to boot from a recovery image tape and restore the OS
If the external disks have failed if they ae not mirrored then you have to get them replaced and restore the vg (if at all it is in a different vg) and restore data.
If there are mirror disks and are hot pluggable you can remove them and resync when it is replaced.

Rgds

HGN
