Do you have an ignite recovery tape? if not, and you don't have a bootable kernel, I think you better look for the latest cd's.

Hi All,

Upon coming in one morning my hp11 visualize had crashed and burned..
A power cycle dropped me off at the ISL claiming it couldn't find the kernel! I've tried booting /stand/vmunix.prev also but no luck.
Firstly I'm wondering what could cause the kernel to get whacked on a single user system - probably a lot of things, but it's a fairly catastrophic failure.. also is it possible to get the system going again without having to reinstall?
Thanks,

Mark

Guess#1 - the root drive had a hardware error and is now unreadable

Guess#2 - /stand is corrupt

Good Luck!

Hi ,
You can restore the ignite image back to the machine if you have created make_recovery tape.

You can also do following.

1. If you have similar spare machine, you can plug your root disk in to other machine and try to boot the system. IF it works then there is something regarding h/w problem.

-pap
Guys,

I do indeed have a recovery tape - is it just a matter of copying the kernel from the tape over to /stand?

Mark

I agree with Robert. Sounds like the boot disk may have crashed.

hi,

make sure the hard disk is ok. You can boot from the support CD and then try mounting the disk filesystems. That will be confirm the disk integrity. If the disk itself is crashed, then you would need a replacement.

-raj
