I have a network guy that wants me to do a SMB mount to a server instead of an NFS mount. I am running 11.0 and have not found anything to do with SMB mount. I do have somewhat of samba running, so the users PC can have their drives mapped to some directories on the HP. I have a 9000 server running 11.0

Thanks
Linda
Sorry, the question isn't very clear to me.

You will need the SAMBA (CIFS) Server product to export the UX filesystems to PC and other Samba (CIFS) Clients.

Similarly, you need SAMBA (CIFS) Client software on HP-UX systems to mount any SMB/CIFS export from the Windows machines/SAMBA servers.

To clarify:
right now I do this command:

mount -o soft /servername/directoty /HPdirectry

this shows as an nfs mount in my mnttab,fstab,checklist......

User can send files directly to this server.
The physical server is being trashed and the application is being moved to a diff server.
The network guy doesn't want to mess with Windows nfs for unix services on this server.
He suggested the samba mount.
I don't have the CIFS Samba software installed on my 9000. Is that what I have to do first?
Thanks
Linda
So, someone has made a Samba share available to you and you need to mount it on your HPUX server? If this is the case you will need to install CIFS-Client which you can get for free from HP's Software Depot:
http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B8724AA
Installing CIFS-client will require a reboot.
Shalom Linda,

If you have Samba server, you will be able to permit your PC users to see data on your HP 11.00 box. You may even be able to join the box to a domain.

Note that if the HP box is mounting anything with Samba that runs on top of nfs client so you get nothing by going to Samba except windows connectivity.

SEP
