Hi Team ,

I wolud like to know
1.How to check the performance between two systems in a network , if perfomance is poor how to resolve it.
2.How to checke the disk array [SAN] performance , If its poor how to recover it.

Thanks in Advance

priyarajan,

1. One way to check network performance is to time how long it takes to transfer a large file via ftp, nfs, etc., then divide by the size of the file. This will give you the throughput.

2. # iostat -t 5 5
# sar -d
# glance -u
# glance -d
# gpm &; Reports->Disk Info->IO By Disk

PCS

You can use some tools like netcat/netperf to test network performance. Check the ouput of netstat -ni and verify if you have errors or collisions. Ensure that your network switch and network adapter are negotiating the right speed.

To verify SAN performance use sar -d or iostat, also utilities provided by your Storage provider (Like evaperf for EVAs). If the SAN performance is poor you have things to check:

Is your LUN and RAID configuration appropiate?
Is your load balanced among the disk and controllers?
Is your zoning configuration correct?
Is your storage fast enough for your application load?
