Hi,

Adding to the olympian's comments, striping, mirroring and "striped logical volumes that can be mirrored" and not the other way around can be done using LVM. And VxVM does support RAID5 and also supports a concept of "dynamic relayout support" which means that the format can be changed from RAID5 to mirrored which is a feature not available in LVM v1. Remember these RAID levels are again I will say at the LV level and at the end of the day based on "extents".

Regards
Ismail Azad

LVM can do mirroring, striping and (in 11.31) striped mirrors, usually called RAID0, RAID1 and RAID10 or RAID0+1.

I assume VXVM does the same.

At least in previous releases VxVM was able to do RAID5, but this has worst performance.

LVM in 11.23 can also do striped/mirror volumes after installing patch PHCO_37939 11.23 LVM Striped/Mirror + 16TB LV Enablement and patch PHKL_40918 11.23 LVM Cumulative Patch

Note, that LVM mirroring and striped/mirror requires additional license MirrorDisk/UX.
VxVM requires VxVM Full license for RAID-ed volumes.
