Hi,
We have SG 11.16 running on HPUX 11v1. pkg disks are mirrored with 2 storage types EMC and HP as we wanted to move from one storage to the other.once we have split the lvols (lvsplit command)modifyed the configuration files to the new lvol1b , and tried to bring up the packege it faild from Oracle reason.
once we tried to merge again (lvmerge command) it seem that it is mirroring the whole disk again.
my question is if we tried to bring up Oracle and it failed, why is there a full mirror? should it take a few minutesd like the lvsplit ?

thanks,
Reuven

No idea why you got a problem after the split (not enough information); but if you merge again the complete LVOL will be mirrored again.

Hello Reuven,

From the MAN pages:

The new logical volume must be checked with the fsck command before it is mounted (see fsck(1M)). lvsplit flushes the file system to a consistent state except for pipes and unlinked but open files

lvsplit cannot be performed if the volume group is activated in shared mode.
Hi,
thanks Torstenfor your reply.once you issue the lvsplit command , it takes a few seconds.then if no change was done and you issue the lvmerge command it will take seconds as will.the problem was that we started a SG package and if it fails to start it de-activates the vg and destroys the bit map, then you need a full sync.
I dont know if there is a way to restore bit map without syncing (a sync took us ~15 hours)or avoid erasing of the bit map.
is there way to check bit map ?

thanks Basheer for your reply. in order to mount the FS you need to issue the fsck command. (it is a must!!!

thanks both
Reuven
