I'm swcopying a depot and during the "copy" operation it the analysis fails. This is due to it cannot find dependency patch PHKL_18543. PHKL_18543 IS installed and a "swlist -l fileset PHKL_18543" shows:

# Initializing...
# Contacting target "rga8"...
#
# Target: rga8:/
#

# PHKL_18543 1.0 PM/VM/UFS/async/scsi/io/DMAPI/JFS/perf patch
PHKL_18543.C-INC 1.0 ProgSupport.C-INC
PHKL_18543.CORE-KRN 1.0 OS-Core.CORE-KRN
PHKL_18543.CORE2-KRN 1.0 OS-Core.CORE2-KRN
PHKL_18543.KERN2-RUN 1.0 OS-Core.KERN2-RUN
PHKL_18543.VXFS-ADV-KRN 1.0 AdvJournalFS.VXFS-ADV-KRN
PHKL_18543.VXFS-BASE-KRN 1.0 JournalFS.VXFS-BASE-KRN
PHKL_18543.VXFS-PRG 1.0 JournalFS.VXFS-PRG

Is it OK to install patch PHKL_26059? If so, is there a some type of dependency bug in this patch?

thanks,

..JOe
The short answer is yes.
Wehn swcopying you should use the option '-x enforce_dependencies=false'. When swinstalling it will find that PHKL_18543 IS installed in the analyze phase and allow PHKL_26059 to be installed.
Remember that you can always run swinstall including the analyze phase without actually altering your system.

Happy Easter,
Trond

Hi,

PHKL_26059 has only one dependency - PHKL_18543. As you have already have this patch, there won't be having any issues for installing this patch. Try doing 'swinstall'.

Remember that you must reboot the server after the installation.

HTH,
Shiju

Hi,

Just to be sure !
Never try to reinstall PHKL_18543.
This is already on your system and if you change the options to reinstall is true you will probably end up with a complete reinstall of your system.

This patch is a dependency of almost any patch.

So be carefull, changing options.

C.

Hi Joe:

Just like you don't mess with Mother Nature, you don't mess with PHKL_18543 ;-)

Seriously, though, I can't imagine why you would want to uninstall this one. This is a "line-in-the-sand" patch upon which a vast number of other patches depend. A full explanation of the nature of this patch can be found here:

http://us-support3.external.hp.com/wpsl/bin/doc.pl/sid=388996800126e2b81d/screen=wpslkppChangeNote

Regards!

...JRF...

I don't want to uninstall it. I was just curious why it didn't show up in the swremove -- if in fact, it IS installed?

I suspect 18543 is not to be messed with.
..Joe

Hi Joe:

For your last question:

PHKL_18543 is a base patch. Once incremental patches have been installed, all incremental patches must be removed before the base patch can be removed. SD-UX ( swremove ) will refuse to allow the base patch to be removed if incremental patches are present.

Check this document if you need further clarification on this:

http://us-support3.external.hp.com/cki/bin/doc.pl/sid=f537db6f172ca46bc4/screen=ckiDisplayDocument?docId=200000059617172

HTH,
Shiju
