Dears,
can anyone help out, i have a volume group not mounted with the following error
/dev/vg02/lvol1, error=6
no such device

Some steps:

# strings /etc/lvmtab

what disk belong to vg02?

# ioscan -fn

disks are there?

# vgdisplay -v vg02

VG active?

Hi:

This sounds like the device file is missing (which is what the error and error number say).

Do:

# ls -l /dev/vg02

If the device file(s) are missing, you could try a 'vgexport' and then a 'vgimport'.

/dev/dsk/c0t0d0
/dev/dsk/c0t1d0

ioscan -fn
i assume that
3 8/12.0.0
5 8/12.1.0

vgdisplay -v vg02

vgdisplay: volume group not activated.
vgdisplay: cannot display volume group "vg02"

the return back for the ls -l /dev/vg02 is
group, lvol1, rvol1 with a root/sys user/group

i have tried vgchange -a y /dev/vg02
result:
vgchange: couldn't activate volume group /dev/vg02
Quorum not present, or some physical volume(s) are missing !!!?

Mattar,

Do pvdisplay on each one of them.

this will return the vg it belongs to.

# vgchange -a y -q n vg02

If two disks are present then probably one disk is missing or gone bad.

What is the status of /dev/dsk/c0t0d0 and /dev/dsk/c0t1d0 in:
# ioscan -fnC disk

Are they claimed??

Try:
ioscan -nfC disk |grep -i no_hw

I think disks are missing...

All the result for ioscan -fn are claimed,
i will try the activation command and let you know.

if a hardisk is faulty, how can i identify it ?
i have a new one but don't know which i should replace?

i have two auto raid storage, each has three 18.2GB

ordered A1, A2 & B1

pvdisplay /dev/dsk/
couldn't query physical volume
couldn't query all of the physical volumes
couldn't retrive the names of the names of physical volumes belonging to volume group /dev/vg02

Hi Again,

PLease post the result of:
# vgchange -a y -q n vg02

If above works, post:
# vgdisplay -v vg02

Else:
#strings /etc/lvmtab
to see which disks were present in vg02. NOw see if they are "claimed" in "ioscan -fnC disk".

If yes..run:
#vgscan -pav
(This is only preview mode. No changes will be made to system.) And see which disks comes up under vg00.
If it is different from those in /etc/lvmtab, take backup of original lvmtab and run:

#vgscan -av
to recreate lvmtab (only after taking backup of lvmtab).

the data on VG02 is: /usr/informix
i want to restore it on the /usr/informix directly. (VG00)

i have
full backup (5 tapes)
informix backup (1 tape)
Ignite backup
user backup
informix CD

can you provide me with the different read commands, i tried tar tvf /dev/rmt/0m
with a check sum error. it seems backup was taken with other method.

i have replaced the scsi cable and geting a stream of errors:

lv_readvgdats: couldn't read VGDA 1 header and trailer from disk H/W path 8/12.2.1 (error =5)

lv_readvgdats: couldn't read VGDA 2 header and trailer from disk H/W path 8/12.2.1 (error =5)

LVM: PV 0 has been returned to VG [6]
LVM: vg[6] pvnum=0 (dev_t=0x1f002100) is powerfailed
LVM: performed a switch of Lun ID = 0 (pv = 0x2f224000), from raw device 0x1f001100 (with priority: ..)

it is an endless loop !!

can any one kindly advice

i have reached the original point,
VG02 is not mounted.
now my only hope is to fix the VG02 volume

any hope .......??
