Hi all,

I have a question about APA. After I installed APA in my server, I try to disable them. The port on the switch is set to 100Full Duplex / Fixed / no autoneg. Then I found that the network was fine except ftp doesn't work. The error said

421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection

and the syslog shows

Jan 24 10:47:54 server2 ftpd[3261]: Data port : 20
Jan 24 10:49:14 server2 ftpd[3261]: FTP server (Revision 1.1 Version wuftpd-2.6.1 Tue Jul 15 07:42:07 GMT 2003) ready.
Jan 24 10:49:14 server2 ftpd[3261]: lost connection to server3 [::ffff:192.168.1.176]
Jan 24 10:49:14 server2 ftpd[3261]: FTP session closed
Jan 24 10:59:04 server2 vmunix: intl100(0):Invalid mcast info. dhg_count 0                           dhg_len 6
Jan 24 11:13:21 server2 ftpd[4265]: Data port : 20
Jan 24 11:14:41 server2 ftpd[4265]: FTP server (Revision 1.1 Version wuftpd-2.6.1 Tue Jul 15 07:42:07 GMT 2003) ready.
Jan 24 11:14:41 server2 ftpd[4265]: lost connection to server1 [::ffff:192.168.1.180]
Jan 24 11:14:41 server2 ftpd[4265]: FTP session closed
Jan 24 11:19:30 server2 vmunix: intl100(0):Invalid mcast info. dhg_count 0                           dhg_len 6
Jan 24 11:35:26 server2 vmunix: intl100(0):Invalid mcast info. dhg_count 0                           dhg_len 6
Jan 24 11:35:52 server2 ftpd[6459]: Data port : 20
Jan 24 11:37:12 server2 ftpd[6459]: FTP server (Revision 1.1 Version wuftpd-2.6.1 Tue Jul 15 07:42:07 GMT 2003) ready.
Jan 24 11:37:12 server2 ftpd[6459]: lost connection to server1 [::ffff:192.168.1.180]
Jan 24 11:37:12 server2 ftpd[6459]: FTP session closed

Did you encounter it?

Achillies

Looks like your server1 and server3 might be trying to connect to server2 using IPv6 protocol instead of the "normal" IPv4.
Should they do that? Does FTP work if you use IPv4 only?
Is there some kind of firewall between the 2 systems ?

It appears that the inbound command connection works, but the outbound data connection fails to reach the client system (server3).

Try passive mode with ftp on the client.

If I understand that you have disabled APA, It's possible that the switch is still trying to use multiple ports, and is passing the inbound data to an unused port on your system ?

You may need to trace the intl100 driver with nettl or ethereal to observe the failure.
