BOOTP lease question

Hello everyone,

Right now, we have BOOTP configured so that it will give the same ip address to specific MAC addresses.

I'm having this problem. My MAC/ip is hard-coded on BOOTP so there's no problem on my subnet. However, if I visit another floor on the building (which is on another subnet) I can't get an ip lease (since my MAC is already registered for that OTHER subnet).

Having said that, is it possible to provide a lease to machines (in other subnet other than their usual)? We would like to accomplish this...giving a lease with an 8 hour expiration to whoever visits another subnet (or a consultant coming from outside). The problem seems to be that...if your MAC is already registered in a given subnet, the dhcpd won't give you a lease in OTHER subnet.

Thanks,
JOrge

I would talk with your network admin. Are you sure your bootp broadcasts are getting through your router. By default, I think the router will filter it, but it should be possible for them to setup a helper on the router to allow bootp to cross subnets. We have done this with xdmcp broadcasts to allow pc clients to see server on different subnets through Exceed's chooser.
