How do I cut back in the I-NODE utilization. Currently the system shifts from 90% to 100%.

What causes I-NODE to get so high?

Brian,

Let me set up a scenario.
Recently a 3+ Gb mount point went to 95% utilization, after much clean up the utilization should have decreased to 35% but it did not. It seems that the I-Node utilization remained high and could not be released.
Now, the only way to remove these 'hanging' I-nodes was to unmount the file-system (alternatively to reboot).
This situation occurred on v11.00, my partner has seen this occur on v10.20.
Hope I am scratching the right tree with this response. Good luck!

I belive what you are looking at is the inodeCACHE which is quite normal reaching 100%.
If I'm wrong please explain what command you are using.

Regards,
Trond

the inode utilisation on vxfs file system is dynamic , so you dont have to be worried about that. But I think you are talking about the ninode parameter which you can check through sar -v 2 5. This parameter is for the HFS file system only. You can increase according to your requirement. But too high will also effect you on the CPU performance.

I am running one K460 with 2 CPU,2GB RAM,90 user and oracle with ninode as 5500. You have to set it in trial and error method.

Sandip
