# lanadmin
Select lan
Select the correct ppa (e.g. lan1 = 1)
Select reset

Check the lights on the interface card, see if you see any traffic. You can use lanscan or ioscan to get the hardware path.

Use linkloop to check connectivity to the interface from another machine on the same subnet.

Then try ifconfig lanX up.

If that still does not work, then check the other end of the cable. It could be that the switch has disabled the port, because of a mis-configuration, security error or some other reason. You may need to re-enable the port before you can bring the lan up again.
It could be caused by different duplex/speed settings on each end, so re-check those.

Failing that, it could be a hardware problem with the interface, or the switch, or the cable. You could try a power-off reboot to see if that fixes it.
I have faced the networking problem. I am using HPUX 11.00 OS and the network doesn't work, so that I use the command lanadmin to check the lan card status. It displays the following problems:

Administration Stauts(value)=up(1)
Operation Stauts(value)=down(2)

how can I change the status of Operation Stauts to up again?

Thanks and Regards,
Alex

Hi

You should be able to use:
# ifconfig <INTERFACE> inet <IP address=""> netmask <SUBNET address=""> up

Example:
# ifconfig lan1 inet 192.168.10.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 up

Also ensure you have updated /etc/rc.config.d/netconf file with IP address etc for the interface.

Cheers
Con
</SUBNET></IP></INTERFACE>

Hi Alex,

I have seen this kind of problems when the switch and the card have different negotiation.

Try putting both the LAN card and the switch port in Auto-negotiation and check. If no success, reverse the config by fixing the speed and duplex then try.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Mohan.

Administration Stauts(value)=up(1)
Operation Stauts(value)=down(2)

The first UP means it is administered properly and ready to work.

The second line down(2) essentially means there is no link light. Usually a hardware problem tho it is possible to get the same results with one end set to 10 M and the other set to 100M. You need to check your cable, the NIC, the switch port (shutdown?),- if you have more than one NIC perhaps your idea of which NIC you are using is not the same as the HPUX's- try the other NIC.

Ron
