Best bet:

Latest Version of Ignite on both servers. That will be 3.x on 10.20, which is no longer supported and 5.3 on 11i.

make_net_recovery

Running that on the 10.20 box to a NFS rw export on the 11i box will allow you to back up anything, any of the information you want. You an even back up databases if you shut them down first.

AS far as I know tape devices can not be used remotely without DP or Veritas Netbackup.

SEP

Ho Fadia,

Omniback/Legato/Veritas etc... are all very good backup tools. but expencive. What you can do to get the system info of the 10 server ( i assume 10.20 ) is a print_manifest on the other server, Ingite )( free) needs to be installed for that.

http://docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/fsearch/framedisplay?top=/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90772/B2355-90772_top.html&con=/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90772/00/00/26-con.html&toc=/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90772/00/00/26-toc.html&searchterms=print_manifest&queryid=20040410-015015

Download ignite at:
http://software.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=IGNITEUX

Here is a link to possible backup solutions and there possibilities:

http://docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/fsearch/framedisplay?top=/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90672/B2355-90672_top.html&con=/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90672/00/00/89-con.html&toc=/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90672/00/00/89-toc.html&searchterms=remote%7cbackup&queryid=20040410-015455

HTH,

Gideon

Hi Fadia

You can use fbackup -f <HOST>:<DEVICE> to do remote backups to a remote tape device.

All you need is for root to be able to remsh to the remote server (where the tape device is) without needing a password (need a .rhosts file)

For further details, ref the following:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=143208

With Regards
Hari

</DEVICE></HOST>

Hi Fadia,

Ignite is a good tool to backup up your root VG and fbackup the right one to take the backup of your database residing on the other VGs (hopefully), considering your limited resources.

Once you get the Ignite installed there is a command called print_manifest, which will give most of the information of your system.

You could also use the nickel script to gather all the information of your system.

get it from
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/catia/Utils/nickel.shar

With best wishes
Naveej
