Hi,

I have a new box with 2 nics in it. I would like to have 1 IP address for both cards to use, load balencing between the 2 etc... and also for redundancy if one fails the other will continue to work. BUT I am not sure how to do it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

To fulfill both those requirements you'll need APA (Auto Port Aggregrator) which is designed more for capacity than redundancy - runs *all* NICs. OR...you can use MC/SG. Service Guard is a high-availability product - hence it's focus on redundancy runs one & failsover. So the question to you is which is the greater requirement? That will guide your choice, but be advised is neither is free, not even cheap.
To me, using three NICs - hands down APA, less SG but use Gig-E fiber for throughput.

Rgds,
Jeff

Hi Andrew

As far as I'm aware it's not possible to setup NIC's like this. You need to look at using APA (Auto Port Aggregation) software from HP.
This product does exactly this ie provides redundancy and load balancing with multiple NICs.

It is not a free product.

Cheers
Con

Yap,we use MC/SG to do this.1 lan card with IP and another don't have any ip attach. If the first lan card with IP fail then the second will grab the ip address.

regards
mB

Hi Andrew,

APA sounds like your best option.

You can read about it here:
http://www.docs.hp.com/hpux/netcom/index.html#Auto%20Port%20Aggregation%20%28APA%29

To purchase you would have to call HP, there is not a download option for this product.

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/eng/howtobuy.html

Hope this helps,

Todd
