Hi

Using a bootptab entry for the client that is referencing a non-existent boot file (bf).

That is the most likely reason.

Then networking problems and a non existant bootp file.

This is badly setup I suspect.

go to www.docs.hp.com and search on bootp server and check your facts.

Steve Steel

Warning...Im new at this...I ftped a firmware package to my C3600 workstation so I could use it as a bootp server. For testing purposes I configured bootp on the workstation so I could use it when I boot up our L2000 to load the firmware. When I do a search on the L2000 the system see's the bootp server, but when I tell the system to boot the bootp server it fails with Bad LIF magic! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dan

Hi Dan,
I concur with Steve. Sounds like the boot file, called out in the "bf=" entry in the bootptab file, is not a bootable file. Try:
lifls -l [bootfilename] to verify lif.
Have a grand day!
Bob
