Do you mean you want to see the number of outbound/inbound packets?

netstat will give you that, e.g. :

netstat -iI lan0 2

reports the number of packets in and out of lan0 every 2 seconds.

If you mean you actually want to look at the contents of the packets then:

1. Have a look at the network tracing and logging facility ('man nettl' or 'man nettladm' for info)

2. Get a packet sniffer like ethereal available for free here:
http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Gtk/Applications/ethereal-0.9.12/

HTH

Duncan

ethreal is a sniffer.

nettl is a sniffer that comes with the system.

IDS/9000 sort of performs this task as well.

SEP

ethereal

http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Gtk/Applications/ethereal-0.9.12/

is an excellent tool for packet sniffing. Fully GUI, good packet decoding capabilities, split window presentation, and easy to filter both pre and post capture.

The downside is that you have a large list of prerequisite packages to install:

expat gettext glib gtk+ libiconv libpcap zlib

All are available from the same porting site, above.

tcpdump

http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Networking/Admin/tcpdump-3.7.2/

works in a similar fashion, but is command-line based (no GUI or TUI). It only requires the libpcap package.
