The error message points to samba not being properly installed on one of the partitions.

Perhaps some files got deleted.

It's not very hard to reinstall samba, here's a link to the current version.

Don't use file copy for this, reinstall of depots.

Current version of samba(CIFS)https://payment.ecommerce.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/try.pl?productNumber=B8725AA&date=

SEP

Just a note that before reintalling check if it is already installed (swlist) and just restoring the nmd file from backup helps..
About the samba, it can be used for variety of services, so It will be hard to explain, I think you should read the whole manual, and more importantly you need to find what you exactly need from samba....

Thanks to others for answering the second question.

Samba is a pretty good replacement for Windows File and printer sharing.

In my tests its more reliable and robust then Windows NT or 2000.

We use it to open up drives to our coders who work in windows and need to push objects up to HP-UX for actual production and pre-production testing.

We develop our ap in NT/2000 using oracle tools, upload, compile and run.

Sorry I didn't get back to question 2 sooner.

SEP
