I don't think I explained myself very well!

The server is staying in the same place, only the network is changing. So, should I change the lan console ip address first, or should I do this after I've changed the server ip address and rebooted.

Any advice appreciated.

Deborah Davies

Hello,

I have to move an N-class with Lan console to a new network. I intend to run set_parms to change the ip address and additional network params then reboot. My question is about the order in which to do this - should I change the ip address of the Lan console before or after the server? The server is in another country so this will all be done remotely (with someone at the server end plugging cables). Also, any advice on changing the ip address of the lan console would be useful.

Thanks in advance,

Deborah Davies

Hello Deborah

I guess you could change the IP address, subnet mask & default gateway first because then when they move it and bring it up, theoretically you should be able to log straight in and won't have to talk someone else through making the changes.

Chuck J

hi deborah,

Yes, why don't you do the IP address changes and all appropriate test prior to moving the server?

This will be ideal. So that when they receive it in the other country, they have minimum changes to make!

Regards
Yogeeraj

I guess you can do both the changes at one time.

First change the IP address of remote box by set_parms command and before you reboot the server go to GSP mode and change the lan console IP address.

GoodLuck,
-USA..

Hi Deborah

The lan console is configured using the physical console at the GSP interface. The GSP interface is reached as normal by keying ^B (CTRL-B). The LC command is used to configure the Remote LAN console port. The LS command displays the current configuration. The EL command is used to enable/disable the remote LAN console port.

With regard to which you are going to change first. I would change the address of the LAN console, ensure you can access it then change the address of the server

HTH

Steve
