We are having problems with dhcpclient
Using a b3650 workstation with HPUX 11i as a client off a ms windows200 dhcp server

We are looking for a system where the workstation requests an ip address of the dchp server and having been granted one passes it hostname back so that the server can put it inot a DNS data base. Finally a lease period is returned to the client at which point dhcpclient will enter maintenance mode and everyone is happy.

We have found through experiments that we can achieve all of this except that the dhcpclient wont renew the lease. When the lease period has passed the dhcpclient dies.

We have made the following observations...

To get the workstation to pass it name we have to use the -b option (with the additional -N hostname) if we use the -m option the hostname is not passed back to the server, even with the additional -N option.

The -b option does not start up the deamon

So we have tried using two lines
dhcpclent with a -b option followed immediatly
by dhcpclient with a - m option

This is the only way we can get the named passed back to the server and the deamon started. but still haver the lease period the deamon dies and does not renew.

We have noticed that in Auto_parms the command is listed with a -u option but this is not listed in man pages (what does this do?)

We are struggling to find any one who has made this work. Does anyone have any idea sa to what we are doing wrong.???
Hello,
maybe you would try PHCO_24115 for 11.i = auto_parms patch . We use it on a C3700/11i whith w2k-dhcp-server and DNS .
