I am not sure about the G50's, but try "Ctrl Break" or "Ctrl \" on the console to break out of the boot process. You should get a username/passwd prompt that will allow you to log in and fix up the DNS issue.

Hi,
I have wrongly set the DNS on my G50. It runs HP-UX 10.10 (or so it says). On boot it relentlessly trys to contact the DNS and gets no further on boot. Is there away to fix this other and bodging a DNS for it to talk to then getting in via the console? Can I run an interactive start up like in RedHat linux?

I don't know about interactive, but you can at least start it up in single user mode and bypass all of the network problems, and everything else.

1. Interupt the boot by hitting enter before the 10 seconds is up.
2. when asked to boot from primary say yes
3. when asked to boot from alternate say no
4. When asked if you want to interact with IPL say yes.

It will start to boot then present you with and ISL> prompt. at that prompt enter:
hpux -is

That tells it to start hpux in single user mode. This is also the way to get in if you ever forget the root passwd, or you have hardware issues etc. Then you can edit the files you need to change and issue a
shutdown -ry 0 to get it to reboot into multiuser mode normally.
