Hi John,

Sorry, that's a 10Mb only card.
Performance problem looks to me like the NIC & hub/switch are mismatched. So do the following:
A) Have the network admin set the hub/switch port to 10 MB Full-duplex auto-negotiate off
B) Run #lanadmin -S 10FD 0

See if that gets your performance back.

HTH,
Jeff

Hi,
I have a HP9000/770, that we had to do a clean install of 11.0 on due to a disk failure, but now the built-in lan card seems to be giving much degraded performance from what we earlier experienced.
I'd like to know if anyone can tell me if the built-in LAN for this model is only 10MBT? If so how can I change the duplex setting for it (or can I?)
I've attached the results of the lanscan here..
thanks so much!!!!
The speed of the card is Max 10Mbps. In 10 Mbps card it is not possible to put autonegotiation on for 100 Mbps.

Rather , autonegotiation is for accepting 10 or 100 according to the speed of the Network Card.

Sandip

Jeff,
if I enter that command I get the message "unable to change speed" errno=22.
I'm not sure how or even if i can change the duplex of this built in lan, if it can't be changed, and the network hasn't been changed, i'm at a loss as to why the performance degraded so badly after the re-install. thanks!
Hi John,

Looking at your lanadmin output I see a relatively high collision rate & what appears to me to be a high deferred value. That's where you're suffering, I would think. Can the network admins look at activity at the port it connected to?

Also do
#lanadmin -s 0 does it show any duplex setting?
#lanadmin -x 0 do the options shown list duplex?
#ioscan -fC lan what driver is it using? May need patch(es).

HTH,
Jeff

Hi John

I dont think so you can run lanadmin on 10 mbps card , the best way may be is to change settings at the switch levle (amy be ) as there is not much flexibilty with this port type .

Manoj Srivastava

John,

Unless netstat -s is showing anything abnormal or you have errors in the syslog I think you'll have to work with the network admins to further diagnose this.
BTW - have you tried a known good cable or tried switching to another port on the hub/switch to rule those out?

Rgds,
Jeff
