second link

Network Connectivity: Two systems cannot communicate with each other

Problem Description

I have a J200 and C180. These systems can communicate with
other units, but not to each other (I cannot ping, ftp, rlogin).

A linkloop on the J200 produced the following output:

error: get_msg2 getmsg failed, errno=4

A linkloop on the C180 receives a different error:

error: expected primitive 57 0x20 got dl_error_ack

What is the problem?

Configuration Info

Operating System - HP-UX
Version - 10.20
Hardware System - HP 9000
Series - J200

Solution

In this particular case the problem is a cable flaw in the C180.
To correct this problem, use the following steps:

1. Error 57 is usually a severed LAN, so reset the C180 card with
landiag.

2. Change the cable on the C180.

I've got 2 machines nodeA and nodeB which are to be clustered. I'm having problems with the linkloop on the standby card in nodeB

linkloop from nodeA primary card to nodeB standby card I get the following
Link connectivity to LAN station: 0x001083FA6174
error: get_msg2 getmsg failed, errno = 4
-- FAILED
frames sent : 1
frames received correctly : 0
reads that timed out : 1

If I linkloop from nodeB stanby to nodeA primary I get this message

Link connectivity to LAN station: 0x080009A3F40E
error: expected primitive 0x30, got DL_ERROR_ACK
dl_error_primitive = 0x2d
dl_errno = 0x04
dl_unix_errno = 57
error - did not receive data part of message

Is there anything else I can look at, or have I got a faulty network card ?

Thanks in advance

Hilary
The card would not let me change the speed settings - kept giving me an error message.
Then to confuse matters, the problem resolved itself, and re-appeared on the secondary card in nodeA

We have amended the port on the switch to mirror the card settings, and also swapped the cable for good measure, and everything is now OK.

Thank you for your help.

Hilary
second link

Network Connectivity: Two systems cannot communicate with each other

Problem Description

I have a J200 and C180. These systems can communicate with
other units, but not to each other (I cannot ping, ftp, rlogin).

A linkloop on the J200 produced the following output:

error: get_msg2 getmsg failed, errno=4

A linkloop on the C180 receives a different error:

error: expected primitive 57 0x20 got dl_error_ack

What is the problem?

Configuration Info

Operating System - HP-UX
Version - 10.20
Hardware System - HP 9000
Series - J200

Solution

In this particular case the problem is a cable flaw in the C180.
To correct this problem, use the following steps:

1. Error 57 is usually a severed LAN, so reset the C180 card with
landiag.

2. Change the cable on the C180.
