Hi Dan,

I also filled it out & wish to echo Harry's sentiments. I think some of my old manuals have run off to the islands & kidnapped some of my socks out of the washer on the way.
They basically disappear over time. Having older manuals for discontinued products left on-line would be nice.

RGds,
Jeff

Hi All,

Thought you'd be interested to know about an opportunity for you to provide feedback on hp documentation.

A short doc survey is located at http://techsolutions.hp.com/survey/ and will be available until May 31. I've been told the survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

The doc team is looking to improve documentation and communication processes. They are looking for input on what to provide and in the format you need.

The survey focuses on HP Fast Ethernet, HP Gigabit Ethernet, ATM, CIFS, Fibre Channel, and IPSec/9000. If you have ever used any of these products, your feedback would be great.

Regards,
Dan
Forums Manager

Dan,

I filled out the survey, but:

My biggest beef with any HP documentation is when a product is no longer supported the documentation is yanked, yet there are thousands of people with the hardware/software and no where to turn for documentation.

live free or die
harry

Dan,

I want to elaborate on the documentation topic. It's very difficult, unless you keep a lot of paper manuals around to find information on things like this:

tape drives, optical towers, cdroms, servers (ie: G-class, apolo's, ...), modems, LAN cards, scsi cards, software products (ie colorado backup), FC cards, PC's, MUX strips, and many more products ...

I agree that it needs to be clearly stated that it's obsolete - maybe some huge blinking red title of "obsolete" and "no longer supported". But at least the info is there - plus you can add a SELLING point showing the user what the SUGGESTED replacement product could be.

Fortunately for me, we cycle out older products ASAP, but we still have 40 G-class servers - soon to be replaced before October of this year (2002). By then we should also have all of our 10.20 machines upgraded to 11i+. Unfortunately, especially today, a lot of companies and users have to do with what they have because the money is tight. This is where the benefit of having HP equipment and the relationship to the customer is so damn important. If HP can help these clients squeeze a little more out of their products, then maybe they will continue to be HP customers.

Thanks Dan - please - N/A here.

live free or die
harry

The same thing with http://www.hp.com - things change so fast, that I am constantly updating bookmarks.

Example: got brand new A-class servers last october. All URLs gone by this spring...

And the constant renaming of OpenView products is almost immediately reflected in the URLs. I would really love placeholder pages with links like: "IT/O is gone. go to VPO". You follow up and read "VPO is..."

Jeff -
If your older manuals ran off to the islands, I doubt they kidnapped your socks before they left.
I'm sure your socks were willing participants. ;)
Kel
Hi Dan and All,

I just filled out the survey and I??d like to say like others guys that HP must preserve the old manual as hard-copy, cd and on-line.

Regds,

Bassoi
