Hi,
Remote printer use /usr/spool/lp/model/rmodel interface script that not recognize -n <COPY>
switch.
remote printer not support all switch cause the formatting is not done at local computer they just send file content and some easy parameter.
if you want more enhancement of printing you need to embeded the escape code with file.</COPY>

Hi All,
Can anybody help me ?
I have an hp9000 server running hp-ux 11.0.I am trying to configure a printer on a CISCO Router 2511 ( with has option for 16 async ports) as a remote printer on this cisco router. The Cisco router async lines are configured as per what I think is adequate for this. On the HP side I have specified that the printer is remote printer on a BSD socket.
I am able to print to this printer but ONLY one copy even if I specify multiple copies as with option < -ncopies> of the command lp.
In this scenario the Cisco router is the remote system where the async line is configured as printers .
Note that all the configured printers on the router works perfectly fine with the desired options if you print from NCR system.
I feel that the router should be tuned to understand HP lp spooler.

Please help

Hamid,

This is probably a printer interface file issue and not the cisco router. I can't even think of what you could change on the router side. Look at the printer interface file to see if it includes an option to send a command to the printer to allow "copies".

live free or die
harry

When you print to remote printer, you are constrained to the rules of the remote computer system...which in this case isn't a computer at all but a simple printer-LAN interface card. If the remote system was another HP-UX computer, everything would work including -n and all the -o options.

But without the support of HP-UX on the printer side, all formatting (and copies) must be generated on the local system (ie, repeat lp as many times as needed).

Hi all,

Thank you for you inputs.
However if the problem lies in the Cisco router how can we explain that the default configuration for an async line configured as a printer works fine with NCR using lp -nCOPIES
I think the problem is that the cisco router must be tuned to understand HP spooler which may be different from NCR spooler.
I will try to modify the interface driver and see what outcome it gives.

Hamid
