Excuse me , Is something going seriously wrong here. The attachment I am seeing indicates a LAN problem. To me it is a problem with a 10/100Mb port on a switch or hub which is set to auto-negotiate as is lan0 and lan1 on the HP system.

You have two problems, the SCSI disk problem (which may have been a one-time transient) and the LANs. The device in which you have plugged your LAN cables does not support auto-negotiation (perhaps it is a simple hub or perhaps 10BaseT not 100BaseT?).

You need to change your startup file for each LAN to explicitly set the speed and duplex. If your network device can be programmed, set it to a fixed value also. Autonegotiation can fail in a number of ways including using a specific cable length. By locking the speed and duplex, you are no longer free to plug-and-chug cables but a speed/duplex mismatch is not healthy for the LAN. Your LAN config files are found in /etc/rc.config.d/hp*conf.

While most HP LAN cards support Auto-negotiate, it has been the overwhelming experience of HP-UX users to avoid it completely. If you hard-set the speed/duplex on both your servers and the switches, you will find that the LAN problems drop to near zero.
