hi guys...

I just wanna know that if I put another nameserver entry in my resolv.conf file, do I have to reboot the system, or resolv.conf is an ordinary text file that when a request is made is going to look in the file....

Thanks

Hi Jonathan,

No reboot is needed. However, currently running process are not assured to use the new nameserver but any new processes will.

Clay

Hi Jonathan,

The only think I know of that requires a reboot is kernel changes. Other changes can be done with a simple restart of the service. However, the modification to the resolv.conf does not even require that.

...jcd..

Hi Jonathan,

you don't need to reboot the system for the entries in /etc/resolv.conf to come into effect. Do remeber that you can have a maximum of three entries for the nameserver. Once you save the file and exit, it is into effect.

http://docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/fsearch/framedisplay?top=/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90147/B2355-90147_top.html&con=/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90147/00/00/28-con.html&toc=/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90147/00/00/28-toc.html&searchterms=resolv.conf&queryid=20011009-135026

Hope this helps.

Thanks
