problem installing hp-ux 10.2

Long explanation, but I need to install hp-ux 10.2 on an hpg40. About a minute after choosing to 'install hp-ux', I get the error:
"warning: could not clear boot block on disk /dev/rds/c0t6d0" "no such device or address" (errno. 6)

I've been told that this could be due to the way the jumpers are set on the primary boot drive. If this is the case, can anyone tell me what the jumper settings should be? Or if it's not the case, point me in the right direction?

can you tell us /dev/rds/c0t6d0 is a HDD or CD or something else

Hi,
Normaly boot disk is address 6, but you can change, when you install there's a menu where you can especify disk you want install OS. try install in other disk if you can. If disk is in address 6, maybe you have changed jumpers perhaps for change address and you make a mistake with that. Witch P/N disk is?

Hi, /dev/rds/c0t6d0 is an HDD, but I booted off the 10.2 cd.

Also, I probably should've put the rest of this error before, but didn't know how relevant it was. After the errno.=6, I get:

"creating LVM physical volume: /dev/rdsk/c0t6d0 (52.6.0) pvcreate: couldn't open physical volume.

/sbin/pvcreate -f -B /dev/rdsk/c0t6d0 failed."

Bad cable or bad internal Hard disk.
Is disk spinning?

Hi Eric:

The system will create LVM physical volume on /dev/rds/c0t6d0, since no device exist, you saw the error message about PV failure.

During your installation, you should see similar messages like this:

HP-UX Install Utility - Select System Root Disk

The install utility has discovered the following disks attached to your system. Select one disk to be your system root disk, this disk will contain(at least) the boot area, a root file system and primary swap space. At the same time, LVM must be used for a first installation.

Hardware Path|Product ID|Size (Megabytes [Mb])
10/0.2.0 ST15150W 4096
10/0.3.0 ST15150W 4096
... ...

Did you see your HDD in this list, if no, maybe you need change to use another one or check your H/W.

Thanks everyone, for the help so far.
Sachin-The weird part is that 11.0 was
running on this machine fine, so if it's
a hardware malfunction, it must've broke recently...which is possible I guess.

My setup: 2 hard disks on the hpg40 and then
I have a separate external unit with 3 disks
connected to the hpg40. The OS is not recognizing any of the 3 external disks. I tried to install on the only other drive that is recognized (the second one in the hpg40), but I get the same error as before. (different device path of course)

David, I haven't changed the jumper settings, but maybe they're set incorrectly...Can anyone point me to any doc about this?

Hi Erik

In case you can just disconnect the external drive form the machine and replace the open end with terminator , and at the IPL you can check for the devices . It looks like the PATH is the problem since you have not changed anything . This would reduce the paths .

It may also be possible that the disk is gone bad ?
