Melvyn,

The GbE card is installed in 8/8 on the HSC expanision I/O board. Here is an output from ioscan:

H/W Path Class Description
================================
bc
8 bc I/OAdapter
8/8 ba PCI BusBridge GSCtoPCI
8/8/1/0 unknown PCI(12ae0001) -- Built in #1

and dmesg:

8/8 GSCtoPCI

Are there different versions of 'gelan', one for PCI and the other for HSC? Any ideas from the above output? Thanks again.

- Mike

GbE NIC Install

Hello All,

I am having problems installing a gigabit NIC in a K370 running HP-UX 10.20. The product number is A4924A and it is an HSC card. When I physically install the card in the server and power on the box I get both LEDs to light up and remain on for as long as the server is powered on.

I have installed the following patches:

PHNE_19564 (10.20 1000Base-SX cuml. patch)
PHCO_21186 (SAM patch)
PHNE_22352 (Latest LAN products cuml. patch)
PHNE_22507 (Latest Transport patch)

I have also ensured that gelan is in the kernel. I get no output from dmesg, ioscan, or lanscan showing any signs of the card.

I also get no response from the link lights when I connect and disconnect the fiber from the Cisco switch.

I have tried reseating the card and rebooting the server and still no luck. Am I dealing with bad hardware, or am I overlooking something here?

Currently I have three active NICs in the server, the on board 10MB and the dual 10/100 HSC (btlan4), not including the GbE HSC card that is not showing up.

When checking the status of /etc/rc.log I see that hpgelan started successfully, but I am still showing no signs of the card functioning properly. Any ideas on what I might be missing? Thanks.

- Mike
Interesting. You say ioscan shows no sign of the card?
As in not even something at the hardware path and UNCLAIMED?

Which hardware path is it in? Was it ever upgraded from another K series model?
I vaguely recall some of the K series systems needed an extra chip (PAL I think it is called) to activate some of the additional slots, but I may be off base here.

Brian,

Good call on the patch, however when I was investigating it, I found that I already had it installed:

PHKL_19886 B.10.00.00.AA Fix for gigabit ethernet card

Any other ideas? Should I try reinstalling this patch? I assume this patch was a part of a bundle, since I didn't manually install it. Thanks.

- Mike
