Here the error I get from /etc/rc.log

Start NIS server subsystem
Output from "/sbin/rc2.d/S410nis.server start":
----------------------------
NIS_MASTER_SERVER or NIS_SLAVE_SERVER must be set, exiting.

Start NIS client subsystem
Output from "/sbin/rc2.d/S420nis.client start":
----------------------------
starting NIS CLIENT networking
starting up the portmapper
portmap already started, using pid: 660
domainname CATIALP
starting up the Network Information Service
starting up the ypbind daemon
/usr/lib/netsvc/yp/ypbind
Checking NIS binding.
Bound to NIS server using domain CATIALP.
starting up the keyserv daemon
/usr/sbin/keyserv

Using SAM I deleted everything in the NIS window and reconfigured it but i still get this message. I compare /etc/rc.config.d/namesrvs file with another station, and everything seem to be fine! Anything to suggest?

I forgot to say, it not a MASTER but a client. Here is the namesrvs file:

NIS_MASTER_SERVER=0
NIS_SLAVE_SERVER=0
NIS_CLIENT=1
NIS_DOMAIN="CATIALP"
WAIT_FOR_NIS_SERVER=TRUE
MAX_NISCHECKS=2
YPSERV_OPTIONS=""
YPBIND_OPTIONS=""
YPPASSWDD_OPTIONS="/etc/passwd -m passwd PWFILE=/etc/passwd"
KEYSERV_OPTIONS=""
YPUPDATED_OPTIONS=""
YPXFRD_OPTIONS=""
YPSET_ADDR=""

Hi,

The message located in your rc.log doesn't seems to be an error.

On system startup /sbin/init.d/nis.server scripts runs as usual but it starts the NIS server service based the parameter " NIS_MASTER_SERVER and NIS_SLAVE_SERVER ". If they are set to one, then the concerned services are started else no action is performed but a note is logged in rc.log. It is not an error.

Best of luck,

Pramod
Hi,

If you check the nis.server script you will see the following:
if [ "$NIS_MASTER_SERVER" -ne 1 -a "$NIS_SLAVE_SERVER" -ne 1 ];then
echo NIS_MASTER_SERVER or NIS_SLAVE_SERVER must be set, exiting.
exit 0
fi

exit 0 is not a error.
So the previous answer(Pramond) is correct
