Hi Nate:

If your logical volune is stripped over seven physical volumes then you need to 'lvextend' it again over seven volumes. This is a "downside" of stipping.

Regards!

...JRF...

Due to some bad vendor recommendations I am having to quickly scramble to fix a disk space problem with one of my logical volumes that is 92% full. I have new disks but won't be able to get them installed until the week of the 13th. I have some free physical extents that comprise 5 disks in the volume group but the logical volume is striped over 7 disks. What are my options here to buy me some time? Thanks.

mcepicp:/tmp # lvdisplay /dev/vgprod/lv01
--- Logical volumes ---
LV Name /dev/vgprod/lv01
VG Name /dev/vgprod
LV Permission read/write
LV Status available/syncd
Mirror copies 0
Consistency Recovery MWC
Schedule striped
LV Size (Mbytes) 97188
Current LE 24297
Allocated PE 24297
Stripes 7
Stripe Size (Kbytes) 32
Bad block NONE
Allocation strict
IO Timeout (Seconds) default

mcepicp:/tmp # vgdisplay vgprod
--- Volume groups ---
VG Name /dev/vgprod
VG Write Access read/write
VG Status available, exclusive
Max LV 32
Cur LV 10
Open LV 10
Max PV 128
Cur PV 75
Act PV 75
Max PE per PV 3473
VGDA 150
PE Size (Mbytes) 4
Total PE 260325
Alloc PE 242970
Free PE 17355
Total PVG 0
Total Spare PVs 0
Total Spare PVs in use 0

If your LVOL is striped across 7 disks and you want to extend, you need space on all 7 disks - no way around.

Thanks for the help. I was afraid of that. Perhaps I can find a couple of more disks in the XP.
