    <description>&lt;P&gt;&lt;STRONG&gt;dmesg&lt;/STRONG&gt; does not create a logfile.&lt;BR /&gt;Although some of the &lt;STRONG&gt;dmesg&lt;/STRONG&gt; lines are logged to &lt;STRONG&gt;syslog.log&lt;/STRONG&gt; during bootup, subsequent messages are not logged.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;To create a log *and* add a timestamp, add this line to your &lt;STRONG&gt;crontab&lt;/STRONG&gt; on *all* HP-UX boxes, any version:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;PRE&gt;# Monitor dmesg with timestamps
0,10,20,30,40,50 * * * * /sbin/dmesg - &amp;gt;&amp;gt; /var/adm/dmesg.log&lt;/PRE&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;The timestamp is added when &lt;STRONG&gt;dmesg -&lt;/STRONG&gt; is run.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The &lt;STRONG&gt;"-"&lt;/STRONG&gt; character tells dmesg to only display anything new since the last &lt;STRONG&gt;dmesg -&lt;/STRONG&gt; command.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Usually you will find the same messages in syslog and/or diagnostics (depending on type).&lt;/P&gt;</description>
